I like the idea of sidelining or ring-fencing funds for bills and leaving only spending money to be … well… spent!
When do you feel anxious or worried about money / managing money?
If you don’t spend it, someone else will!
This is true… and I quite enjoy spending it myself! ha ha

How does one run an account responsibly? Personally I have a real issue with debt, I hate owing money because I feel tied and fear if I lose my job I may be in a world of pain. Meanwhile Joe Bloggs has 10 credit cards and pays them off monthly or at least makes minimum payments. We’re both technically running our accounts responsibly, but Joe Bloggs is running a riskier strategy in my eyes.
Love Xero reconciliation too @weeksy_j - integration with receipts is fantastic but there is something so satisfying about the software spotting the match, checking with you, highlighting it and letting you confirm with one click/tap. Great satisfaction when you finish, as it were.
We want some of that for Xinja!
yeah it’s totally the box ticket life admin stuff that makes me feel less anxious and worried.
Anxious when i think about still working at 80 to pay off mortgage if I stuff up my plan now, but banks work to stuff up your plan.
Keeping track of loan repayments, offset and redraw accounts, what is mine to spend now, what is my extra mortgage payment, how much to fix each 3 years discovering banks recalculating loan repayments when you fix to keep stretching out to 30 years, while I try to pay off more quicker.
Oh god I love this idea @two_seven however I suspect the risk team would murder me if we tried it lol
Take a look at - and you’ll need to try the free version (because paid you can only get in the States unless you’re running a VPN) - of Dave Ramsey’s product EveryDollar. I think this is an interesting concept, helping people prepare zero based budgets.
I’d hate to still be working at 80 too! Do you do the tracking already and if so have you ever found useful ways to do the tracking / is there something that would be useful to have as part of your app that tracks your home loan?
Download the podcast by Dave Ramsey
you’ll enjoy listening to it and it will validate your views on debt - fair warning the listenership to this podcast is a fairly interesting subsection of America. Fun listening regardless.
I originally used a bank home loan calculator that calculated how long to pay off the loan. You could also put in extra payments to see how that would impact the time to pay off on some calculators. Then I used an excel spreadsheet to track how much extra I put in and guestimate how i was travelling. So yes if you could create a tool that did both that would be good. Might remove temptation to splurge on a holiday as the offset grows.
Love this idea, by the way ^^^
I usually feel anxious when I see how much I spend on superfluous stuff like video games, and also when I see a low balance in my account and then look at my empty savings.
TBH, I do pay board/bills and buy groceries, so after all that’s done I still have a fair bit to throw around, but the lack of saving money is what’s getting me atm. I’m not sure what to do about that.
Have you tried Raiz? I only just got on it recently
No, I haven’t as yet. Do like the look of it though. Will give it a try.
Still having some savings left after paying life essentials is helpful in getting a good night’s sleep.
Usually requires a budget hey!
